How to homeschool in Vermont
Send an enrollment notice to the Agency of Education online at least 10 business days before starting, so early August for a full year. It gives each child's name, age and birth date, the parents' contact details, and the parents' signatures. It also attests to assessment and 175 days of instruction. A child never enrolled in Vermont public school needs disability evidence. Returning families file a shorter yearly notice. The agency acknowledges within 10 business days. Enrollment for a year closes around April 1. Assess each child at the end of every year and keep the result. Tell the agency within 10 days if you stop.

Vermont homeschool requirements
- Who can teach
- Any parent. No diploma or certificate required.
- Days and hours
- The equivalent of 175 days.
- Subjects
- Basic communication skills (reading, writing, numbers), citizenship, history and government of Vermont and the U.S., physical education and comprehensive health, English, American and other literature, natural sciences, and fine arts.
- Testing
- An assessment at the end of every year, kept by you and not submitted: a standardized test, a report by a Vermont-certified teacher, your own report with a portfolio of at least four work samples, grades from an online school, or GED evidence.
- Records
- The minimum course of study and each year's assessment.
