How to homeschool in Montana
Notify the county superintendent every school fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) that your child is being homeschooled, before the first day of public school.

Montana homeschool requirements
- Who can teach
- Any parent. No diploma or certificate required.
- Days and hours
- 720 hours a year in grades 1 to 3. 1,080 hours in grades 4 to 12.
- Subjects
- An organized course of study in the basic subjects required of public schools: English language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, health, arts and career education.
- Testing
- No testing or evaluation required.
- Records
- Attendance, available to the county superintendent on request. Immunization records are no longer required (HB 778, 2025).
