How to homeschool in North Carolina
File a one-time notice of intent online with the Division of Non-Public Education at least five business days before starting, or before the child's seventh birthday. It gives the school name and address, the chief administrator, and proof of your high school diploma. The division does not accept notices in May or June. Log in once a year to confirm the school is active. Give each child a nationally standardized test every year and keep the results. Close it through the portal when you stop or move out of state.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Days and hours
- A regular schedule for at least nine calendar months a year.
- Subjects
- No required subjects.
- Testing
- A nationally standardized achievement test every year covering English grammar, reading, spelling and mathematics. Keep the results for one year. Nothing is submitted unless DNPE asks.

- Attendance and immunization records (or exemptions), and the last test results.
