How to homeschool in Oregon
Send a one-time written notice to your Education Service District (ESD) within 10 days of starting, withdrawing from public school, or moving to a new district. It gives your name, each child's name, address and birth date, and the last school attended or your resident district. The ESD acknowledges within 90 days. Test each child at the end of grades 3, 5, 8 and 10 with a qualified neutral person and keep the results. Report them only if the ESD asks.

- Who can teach
- Any parent. No diploma or certificate required.
- Days and hours
- No set days or hours.
- Subjects
- No required subjects.
- Testing
- A state-approved test by August 15 at the end of grades 3, 5, 8 and 10, given by a qualified neutral person from the state list, at your expense. Results go to you and are reported to the ESD only on request. A composite below the 15th percentile means retesting within a year, and continued decline can bring supervision by a licensed teacher or an order to attend school.
