How to homeschool in District of Columbia
File the notification form with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) at least 15 business days before starting, with a copy of your high school diploma or GED. File again by August 15 every year. Give 15 business days' written notice before stopping.

District of Columbia homeschool requirements
- Who can teach
- High school diploma or equivalent, or an OSSE waiver.
- Days and hours
- Of sufficient duration to implement the program, during the period public schools are in session.
- Subjects
- Language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, health and physical education.
- Testing
- No testing. OSSE may ask in writing to review the portfolio up to twice a year at a mutually agreed time and place. Free access to public school testing.
- Records
- A portfolio of current work (writings, worksheets, workbooks, creative materials, assessments) kept for at least one year, and a daily attendance record.
