How to homeschool in District of Columbia

File the notification form with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) at least 15 business days before starting, with a copy of your high school diploma or GED. File again by August 15 every year. Give 15 business days' written notice before stopping.

District of Columbia homeschool requirements

Who can teach
High school diploma or equivalent, or an OSSE waiver.
Days and hours
Of sufficient duration to implement the program, during the period public schools are in session.
Subjects
Language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, health and physical education.
Testing
No testing. OSSE may ask in writing to review the portfolio up to twice a year at a mutually agreed time and place. Free access to public school testing.
Records
A portfolio of current work (writings, worksheets, workbooks, creative materials, assessments) kept for at least one year, and a daily attendance record.
