How it works in Louisiana

  1. 1

Pay by card and download your receipt from Settings.

Louisiana counts textbooks and curricula necessary for home-schooling, for an approved home study program.

  2. 2

Complete the School Expense Deduction Worksheet on the back of Schedule E.

Write "home-schooled" for the school and enter the amount on the Textbooks or Other Instructional Materials row.

  3. 3

Enter the result on Schedule E as code 18E.

The worksheet works out how much of what you paid you can deduct.

  4. 4

Attach the worksheet to your IT-540 and file by May 15.

You can file online with LaTAP.

  5. 5

    Keep every receipt.

The Department of Revenue asks you to keep them as proof of what you paid.
