How to homeschool in South Carolina
Most families enroll with an accountability association of at least 50 families (option 3) or with SCAIHS (option 2) and follow its rules. The association reports to the districts. Option 1 is an application to the district board of trustees, with state testing and reports twice a year.

South Carolina homeschool requirements
- Who can teach
- High school diploma or GED.
- Days and hours
- 180 days (option 1: at least 4.5 hours a day).
- Subjects
- Reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and in grades 7 to 12 composition and literature.
- Testing
- Options 2 and 3: none from the state. Option 1: the statewide tests each year, given by a district employee.
- Records
- Option 3: a plan book, a portfolio of work samples, and a semiannual progress report with attendance for the association. Option 1: the same, open to district inspection.
