How to homeschool in Louisiana
Apply online to the state board of education within 15 days of starting, with a certified birth certificate. Renew every year by October 1, or 12 months after approval. Each renewal includes evidence of progress: a packet of work, a test score, or a certified teacher's statement. The other route is a registered nonpublic school, which reports attendance to the state on the 30th day of the term.

Louisiana homeschool requirements
- Who can teach
- Any parent. No diploma or certificate required.
- Days and hours
- 180 days.
- Subjects
- A sustained curriculum of quality at least equal to public schools at the same grade level.
- Testing
- Each renewal must show one kind of evidence: a packet of subject outlines, materials, work samples and tests, a standardized test at or above grade level or showing a year of progress, or a statement from a teacher certified for the grade.
- Records
- Enough to build the renewal packet. Meningococcal immunization evidence or waiver at ages 11 and 16.
