How to homeschool in Georgia
Submit a Declaration of Intent to the Georgia Department of Education online within 30 days of starting, then every year by September 1. It lists student names and ages, the program address, the local school system, and the 12-month period you treat as your school year. Write a progress report for each child every year and keep it. Test each child at least every three years from the end of grade 3 and keep the results.

Georgia homeschool requirements
- Who can teach
- High school diploma or GED (also for any tutor).
- Days and hours
- 180 days, each at least 4.5 hours.
- Subjects
- Reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies and science at minimum.
- Testing
- A nationally standardized test at least every three years starting at the end of grade 3, administered by or in consultation with someone trained in test administration. Results are kept, not submitted.
- Records
- A written annual progress report for each child in each required subject, kept for three years. Not submitted.
